My Vanguard Havana 36 Shoulder Bag Review

IMG_20150526_042751During previous vacations, I would dread carrying my Nikon camera bag. There were times I’d leave my camera at the hotel to avoid carrying both camera bag and purse.  And who wants to carry all of that on vacation?  I then purchased a cheap over the shoulder tote bag for my next vacation, which held my camera, lenses, including personal items. But no protection for my camera gear. It was a cute bag though.  Finally, I decided to do some research in hopes to find the best bag for my next vacation in Dubai and beyond.  This time avoiding going the cheap route.  Also needed something to protect my camera gear from desert and beach sands. Upon research, I found the Vanguard Havana 36 shoulder bag.

At first, I wasn’t sure if it would be big enough after seeing it online. Also wasn’t sure if it was going to be fashionable enough. But I took a chance and bought the khaki/brown color from Amazon. Upon taking it out the box, I was shocked to see it was the perfect size! It comes with just enough zipper compartments to fit my personal items such as cell phone, makeup, charger, kindle, etc. You also can fit a sweater or jacket, including a small umbrella. There is a compartment for a medium size laptop. The material is very durable, and it is well padded, with an adjustable strap. The bag comes with a rain cover if you need it. For your camera and lenses; it has a separate removable compartment for them! To free up space in your bag, you may want to remove the compartment. I only used the compartment for our plane ride, in which it was easy enough to fit in my suitcase.

This bag is very versatile. I used it for my carry on bag on the airplane and during excursions and activities such as the mall and balloon riding. It held everything perfectly; nothing moved around. There was more than enough room for everything, and it didn’t bulge the bag. While on the beach and desert safari, it was well protected and I didn’t worry!

Yup, that’s it with me everywhere hanging across my shoulders.  Was able to keep EVERYTHING in it, while enjoying my time.  Even on a Quad biking in the desert safari.  It’s safe to say, I will use this on other vacations to come.  You can get yours on Amazon or Vanguard.

  1. Hello Josie
Sometimes they say that no one fits all but I find your Vanguard Havana shoulder bag to be one that fits all.
Like you I like a bag where I can fit in most things I need for a day out shopping or during a city break sight seeing, nothing is more of a pain than having to take 2 handbags because I can not put in my emergency umbrella or water bottle not to forget a must have on vacation a camera.
Another thing that you mentioned that I really like is being able to adjust the straps to fit different activities.
Now I find the $59.99 to be really reasonable which make it a must have for my upcoming city break to Spain early next month.
I have never made any purchase online(call me old fashioned) and you mentioned the Vanguard is being sold by Amazon, do you happen to know if they ship to Switzerland? What about shipping costs or do I have to find this out from Amazon?
    Thanks for your answer

  2. Thanks for the review. It’s always nice to find products that solve some of the smaller annoyances that pop up throughout your adventures. I poked around on some of the other pages of your site, and I’m excited to read about and see more pictures of the places you’ve been. Especially Switzerland, that’s been my favorite destination so far.
